In their endorsement, the Northwest Arkansas Newspapers noted, “this is clear, proven performance in the most severe test of an Arkansas governor’s ability in more than a generation.”
The editorial board praised Governor Beebe for cutting the sales tax on groceries by two-thirds, putting into place the trauma system, his record of conservative fiscal management, and strong support for education.
Thursday, Governor Beebe received the endorsement of the Pine Bluff Commercial newspaper in Jefferson County. The newspaper cited Governor Beebe’s focus on education, his personal background, and understanding of the needs of our state in their endorsement.
“We can recommend Beebe for re-election because he has proven in almost three decades of public service that he keeps his word and has our interests at heart,” the Pine Bluff Commercial said.
“He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth,” the Pine Bluff Commercial continues. “He understands poverty. He understands working for an education, which explains why he places so much emphasis on education.”
On October 7, Governor Beebe also received the endorsement of the Arkansas Times. The paper highlighted Governor Beebe’s commitment to delivering on his promise to begin phasing out Arkansas’s most regressive tax, the sales tax on groceries, in a fiscally responsible manner.
“Gov. Mike Beebe is a capable and cautious middle-of-the-roader who’s managed state government nicely in his first term,” the Arkansas Times said. “He’s well worth keeping.”
