Newport, Ark. —Governor Mike Beebe, Highway Commissioner Cliff Hoofman and Dan Flowers, Executive Director of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, will join local citizens and officials for the ribbon cutting to designate the official opening of Commerce Boulevard on Oct. 4 at 4 pm.

Health and government officials gathered at the state capitol Tuesday to hear Governor Mike Beebe announce the first three members of the state's new trauma system - UAMS in Little Rock, Jefferson Regional in Pine Bluff and "The Med" in Memphis.

Another company is expanding despite the economy and bringing more high paying jobs to Arkansas. The Southwest Power Pool broke ground on a new campus in West Little Rock Thursday. It's the start of a two building, $62-million expansion for Southwest.

Work is already underway on Southwest Power Pool's new west Little Rock corporate campus, but the ground was officially broken Thursday morning on what Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce chairman Barbara Graves called a "high voltage day."

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Two Arkansas hospitals and another in Tennessee were named Arkansas' first trauma centers on Tuesday as health officials said it may take two years until a statewide system of trauma centers is completely up and running.
